Folder Linear Actuator for Drive Roll Adjustment

Special actuator

In addition to differential applications in printing machines there is also an increasing number of applications for special actuators used for positioning purposes. This design example shows how a HDPL-Linear Actuator is used for the adjustment of the drive rolls in a folder. The actuator is used to press the drive rolls together with an accurately defined pressure.

One drive roll is fixed, while the other can move radially by means of a hinged arm. The linear actuator is connected to the arm. The previous design incorporated a pneumatic cylinder to press the rolls together. This solution was very difficult to control, with the result that the pressure between the rolls could not be defined with sufficient accuracy. The HDPL is an electro-mechanical solution, and can provide much more sensitive force control.
