Harmonic Drive Polymer GmbH was established in 2004 as a joint venture between Harmonic Drive AG, Limburg, Horst Scholz GmbH &  Co. KG and the managing partner Dr.-Ing. Frank Pöhlau. For the applied gear design Harmonic Drive offers many years of experience. The plastics know-how of Horst Scholz, a specialist in precision and micro-plastic injection moulding, secures highly precise component manfuacturing.

Engineers and designers increasingly notice and use the advantages of components made from thermoplastics. Accordingly there is an increasing demand for Harmonic Drive precision gears made from thermoplastics to be used in applications where steel components will not be considered due to high manufactuing costs. The complex precision manufacturing of the Harmonic Drive precsion gears made of steel leads to a higher price. In order to offer the main advanteages of the gear principle also to high volume cost sensitive markets Harmonic Drive gears are now offered made from thermoplastics.
